Want to search for an artist on your phone so you can vote for them right there on the spot? Yup, there’s an app for that! The official ArtPrize iPhone application is now available. And while it may not be a big deal in the long run, since the Pom Studios crew will be making sure any web-enabled mobile device can easily access artist information and vote for their favorites, having an iPhone app is still pretty close to the height of cool.
The application itself is very simple and to the point (not a bad thing). Right now all you are able to do is search for artists and access the voting rules. They also include some handy links to more information from places like the ArtPrize website, facebook page and twitter account. That’s about it for right now, but once voter registration is up and running you’ll be able to sign in with your voter account and run around town giving a thumbs up or down anywhere you see one of the 1262 entries.
The disappointment in my book is that ArtPrize didn’t build in anything to make searching for artist near your location easier. Would it be too much to ask to build a little geo-location in to this baby!? I just think it would be pretty sick to be able to whip out my iPhone and see that there are ‘x’ amount of entries with 100 meters of my current locations, and here Mr. Spoiled iPhone User – here’s a handy list for you and walking directions to the venue’s front door from your current locations… Oops, never mind, I now see that they in fact did cover that last part with a nice link to the google map application for each artist’s venue. Hmmmm, well there’s always augmented reality to wish for…
