ArtPrize Entry: “Everything” by You&I

Maybe I love this piece because it is a huge drawing.  Maybe I love it because, every time I look at it, I find something new that I did not notice before.  Maybe I love it because I love drawings.  Whatever the reason is, you should really stop by 45 Ottawa to see “Everything!” by Ryan Greaves and David Schofield of You&I.

From the group’s profile on ArtPrize’s website:

“We collected lists of things to draw in 5 books that were handed out to family, friends, and acquaintances. The drawing includes over 1,000 things from those books. Things such as: ice cream licking people, lasers, bald heads, and a famous person, Mount Rushmore.  The handwritten booklets will be displayed with the final drawing.”

I spoke to Greaves and Schofield on Sunday, September 20, 2009, and they said that there are, indeed, over 1,000 drawings on their board.  Not only is “Everything!” an amazing feat in composition and balance, it is also a great example of how beautiful black ink on white board can be.  “Everything!” demonstrates how a simple line can create shapes and textures.  Paul Klee once said that “a line is a dot out for a walk.”  Well, this dot went out for one crazy walk.

Don’t miss the whole drawing (a.k.a. the dot’s walk), “Everything!,” during ArtPrize.  Come and see it at 45 Ottawa, on the second floor.

It is a great piece! Make sure you have some time to spend looking at it and can get really close to see all of the small details.

I guess a couple of his books got stolen :-( I got to see it when all books were there though. One of the items in the book was “An orange peeing orange juice into a glass.” My friends and I spent about 20 minutes looking for it before finding it. We saw a ton of other great stuff while searching. Great job on this one!

Oh, no! That really stinks that some of their books were stolen. I will have to go back and look for that orange. Thank you and I am glad you enjoyed the drawing, too!
